Terms of Service
These terms are the agreement between you and Differently when you use the app. Each section starts with a plain-language summary; the full text below it is what legally applies.
- Differently is a focus tool, not medical care — it supports your work, it doesn't diagnose or treat anything.
- Your content stays yours. We only host and sync it so the app can work.
- Be decent: don't break the service, don't abuse other people, don't use it for anything illegal.
- Korean law governs, but your local consumer rights always stay intact.
1. Who we are, and your agreement with us
In short: Using Differently means you accept these terms.
Differently ("Differently", "we", "us") operates the website differently.work, the web app at app.differently.work, and the Differently desktop apps (together, the "Service"). Differently is an independent software project operated from the Republic of Korea; contact: jamesko30601@gmail.com. By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms of Service and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. The Service
In short: A focus and task app designed for ADHD and differently-wired brains.
Differently provides tools for planning and doing focused work: tasks and routines, focus timers, priority boards, brain-dump notes, reports, Body Doubling presence with friends, and related features. The Service evolves continuously; features may be added, changed, or marked as beta or experimental.
3. Not medical advice
In short: Differently helps you work with your brain — it is not a doctor, a diagnosis, or a treatment.
Differently is a productivity tool. It is not a medical device and does not provide medical or psychological advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Content on our website — including articles about ADHD and the self-check — is educational information only. The self-check is a self-reflection aid, not a diagnostic instrument. If you have concerns about ADHD or your mental health, please consult a qualified professional. Never disregard professional advice because of something you read or did in Differently.
4. Your account
In short: Sign in with Google or use the app anonymously. Keep your account to yourself.
You can use Differently with a Google account or anonymously; an anonymous account lives in your browser and can be lost if your browser data is cleared, so signing in is the reliable way to keep your data. You must be at least 14 years old (or older where your local law requires) to use the Service. You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping access to it secure. One account is for one person; don't share accounts or impersonate others. If you believe your account was compromised, contact us.
5. Your content
In short: Everything you create in the app is yours. We get only the permission needed to store, sync, and show it back to you.
You own the content you create in Differently — tasks, notes, boards, settings, statistics, and everything else ("Your Content"). You grant us a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive license to host, store, back up, transmit, and display Your Content solely to operate and improve the Service for you. We claim no other rights to it. Body Doubling shares only your display name, avatar, and focusing status with friends you add — never Your Content. You are responsible for Your Content being lawful.
6. Acceptable use
In short: Don't break it, don't abuse people, don't do crimes with it.
You agree not to: use the Service for unlawful purposes; probe, scan, overload, disrupt, or circumvent security or access controls (including rate limits); attempt to access other users' data; harass or abuse other users through social features; upload malicious code; scrape or resell the Service; misrepresent your identity to other users; or reverse engineer the Service except to the extent a law expressly permits it despite this term. We may investigate violations and take reasonable protective measures, including suspending accounts (see Section 13).
7. Our intellectual property
In short: The app, design, and brand are ours. Feedback you send us may be used to improve the product.
The Service — including its software, design, graphics, characters, and the Differently name and logo — is owned by Differently or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the apps for their intended purpose. If you send us feedback or suggestions, you grant us the right to use them without restriction or compensation — it helps us build a better product.
8. Third-party services
In short: Google sign-in, Supabase, and GitHub each have their own terms.
The Service depends on third-party providers: Google (sign-in), Supabase (data storage and sync), Vercel (hosting), and GitHub (desktop app distribution and updates). Your use of those providers' services is subject to their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for third-party services we don't control.
9. Availability and changes to the Service
In short: We aim to keep Differently running well, but a small product can't promise 100% uptime — and features may evolve.
We work to keep the Service available and your data safe (including backups), but the Service is provided without a guaranteed uptime level and may occasionally be interrupted for maintenance, updates, or reasons beyond our control. We may modify or discontinue features; if we ever discontinue the Service as a whole, we will give reasonable advance notice so you can retrieve your data.
10. Disclaimers
In short: The Service is provided "as is", to the extent your local law allows.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will achieve any particular productivity or health outcome. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you; nothing here limits warranties or guarantees that cannot be excluded under mandatory consumer law.
11. Limitation of liability
In short: Our liability is limited — except where the law says otherwise (e.g., intent or gross negligence).
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Differently shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenues, or data, arising from your use of the Service. Our total aggregate liability for all claims relating to the Service is limited to USD 50. These limitations do not apply to liability arising from our intent or gross negligence, to personal injury, or to any liability that cannot be limited under applicable law — including mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence.
12. Termination
In short: You can leave anytime. We can suspend accounts that break the rules — with notice where possible.
You may stop using the Service or delete your account at any time in Settings; deletion is handled as described in the Privacy Policy (permanent erasure within 30 days). We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially violate these Terms, if required by law, or to protect the Service or other users — where practicable, we will notify you and give you a chance to remedy the issue first. Sections that by their nature should survive (5, 7, 10, 11, 14) survive termination.
13. Changes to these Terms
In short: If the terms change in a way that matters, we'll tell you before it applies.
We may update these Terms as the Service evolves. The effective date above shows the current version. For material changes we will give reasonable advance notice in the app or by email; the changes apply after the notice period, and continuing to use the Service means you accept them. If you don't agree, stop using the Service.
14. Governing law and disputes
In short: Korean law governs, your local consumer rights stay intact, and we'd like to hear from you before any dispute escalates.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea, excluding its conflict-of-law rules. If you are a consumer, you additionally keep the protection of any mandatory provisions of the law of the country where you reside, and nothing in these Terms deprives you of the right to bring proceedings before the courts competent under your local consumer protection law. For everyone else, disputes shall be resolved by the competent courts under the Civil Procedure Act of Korea. Before going to court, please email us — most issues can be fixed quickly and amicably.
15. Contact
In short: Talk to us — a human reads this inbox.
Questions about these Terms: jamesko30601@gmail.com. If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect, and the provision is enforced to the maximum extent permitted. These Terms are written in English; translations may be provided for convenience, and where a mandatory local law requires otherwise, that law prevails.
